Sheridan’s reputation for excellence in computer animation extends to Digital Visual Effects (VFX). This intensive, specialized two-semester program prepares you to step directly into a career producing VFX for movies, television, advertising, video games, and Web applications.

Designed for working computer animators and/or computer animation school graduates, the digital visual effects program focuses on both the conceptual and technical aspects of VFX. Working with professional-grade equipment in the Sheridan Centre for Animation and Emerging Technologies (SCAET), you’ll produce a portfolio of advanced VFX work that includes:
  • Synthetic worlds and simulated natural environments
  • Animated VFX within live-action film
  • Seamless matches for lighting, texture, and camera moves
  • Set extensions
  • Natural and human-made catastrophes

The Tricks of the Trade


Sheridan’s instructors, all longtime veterans of the industry, will do more than work with you on your skills. They’ll teach you good work habits as well—the little things that can make the difference between mediocre work and outstanding computer animation.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your talents to their full potential while putting together a portfolio that shows off your best work.

Class for Computer Animation—Digital Visual Effects take place on the Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, Ontario.

Graduates of the Digital Visual Effects program have a specialized, highly marketable skill that translates directly to the workplace. They enjoy a wide range of career opportunities in such industries as:

Graduates have gone on to careers as digital visual effects animators, compositors, motion trackers, rotoscope artists and as lighting and shading specialists.


PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

  • Sheridan’s Computer Animation Program or equivalent

and

  • A postsecondary diploma or degree in the visual or fine arts

and/or

  • Four years of demonstrated competence through relevant work experience

Credentials earned at less than the equivalent of an Ontario College Diploma will not be considered as having met the academic entrance requirements. Weekend workshops and certificates of a one-year duration are not deemed equivalent.


APPLICANT SELECTION 

Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of:
 

  • Demonstrated competence through related work and/or educational experience

and

  • Response to a questionnaire
  • Portfolio

A portfolio review fee is required with the submission. Postsecondary transcripts, indicating courses completed to date, must be submitted to ontariocolleges.ca at the time of application.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other related programs.
